Does Your Team Building Expert Have a Team?
Last weekend, we hosted an internal training for our educational facilitators. As we worked together, it occurred to me:
How many “team building experts” have a team of their own?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I know some great facilitators who do a phenomenal job with team building that don’t necessarily have a large team.
It is not imperative to have a team, but in my experience it helps. As I work with organizations of all sizes, my experience with our own team (dealing with conflicts, developing and updating systems, creating our team culture) has definitely helped me be a better facilitator.

3 Things to Consider (that isn’t Budget) when Choosing a Trainer
1. Who is on their team, and what is their organization’s culture?
As I stated earlier, there is no magic number that is the “right” size team. Some training companies have one person, others have a few people, and internal values will help you see if they are a good fit.
2. What is their internal training schedule?
Trainers should be continually learning. When you ask what a group’s internal training schedule looks like it reveals two things. First, you see the value placed on learning and refreshed.
Better learners make better teachers.
3. Does their core competency match our needs?
All organizations have a core set of material or topics over which they are competent. By learning this, you will see if the program is right, if the timing is right, and if the team is right to work with you team.
