Last week, we had the opportunity to attend the NCCEP capacity building conference in NYC. We had a great time, and are fired up about the information we came home with!
Thinking back on the conference, there are 3 big takeaways that come to mind.
WE MUST RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF
NON-COGNITIVE SKILLS MATTER
I listened to Brandon Busteed of the Gallup organization share critical (and extensive) data on student success, and it was eye opening. He identified several key factors for student success in college. These included their involvement in non-academic activities, their relationship with a mentor, and whether or not they felt genuinely supported by faculty.
WE MUST CONNECT WITH STUDENTS EMOTIONALLY
WE CAN BETTER SERVE STUDENTS AND COLLEGE
